The last few years, candles became the main source of lighting for my space. Their subtle light is soothing for my soul and it makes me feel more focused and calm. Yet, I never had a proper candle holder, so I decided to make my first one (I will make more for sure). I also wanted a tealight holder and I dared to dream a decorated clay matchbox!
For my small clay items I used air dry clay (Fimo basic or DAS are the best) and I painted them with white Indian ink and shimmer watercolors (by Claire Chi). The reason I used these controversial materials for painting the clay is simple: They worked perfectly together to create the imperfect watery vintage look I wanted. Also using acrylic colors on air dry clay, is a huge mistake. Acrylic paint cannot be absorbed by porous clay, so it creates a layer that is being peeled off like a piece of cake. (If someone wants a solid look with acrylic colors it is essential to use them after covering the clay with Indian ink.)
I sealed the paint with one layer of spray varnish and 2 layers of glossy enamel.
