Life without social media & sketchbook pages

I don't post regularly on my blog, yet I've been thinking about it a lot, lately. The reason is my, almost complete, disconnection from social media. To make myself clear before I continue, I didn't delete my accounts but I post rarely and I deleted all apps from my phone. My accounts are still active but more like portfolio pages with the bare minimum of my work. It all started in 2021 when I deleted my Facebook page and personal account. Then I wrote a blog post about Instagram and although I limited my time there, it drug me down to the scrolling game, again. I started posting regularly (mostly on my photography account) and I saw it growing and gaining attention. So I almost forgot everything I said in that post . The last 1,5 year, after the explosion of AI slop, all the famous platforms became a nightmare. Not to mention their huge contribution to growing political polarization. Quiting perfectionism with my sketchbook

I have been suffering from perfectionism since I was a teenager. The fear of doing something wrong or something less than the perfect image I had in my mind, made me feel stuck and unmotivated. I have been constantly comparing myself and my work to the point of mental exhaustion. The last days of 2025 I felt the need to draw, so strong, that quiting perfectionism became unavoidable and, surprisingly, effortless. I just sat in front of my sketchbook and closed my laptop and my phone. I had no idea what I would draw and no reference image. I just made a promise to myself that no matter what, I wouldn't open my phone or my laptop. What I expected was to connect with my imagination and find my inspiration again. I wanted to teach myself to draw without any expectation. Just for fun. I wanted to remember that drawing was my nature.

It all started a few months ago when I decided to draw my new font. I had many ideas but I didn't like any of them. I tried to draw but every time I took my pencil, I felt numb. I thought I should take a break from letters, to take some illustration courses and exercise on something that I also love. I was learning how to draw from my imagination when my inspiration left me again. I just couldn't draw anymore. At the same time, I left the largest platform where I was selling my fonts, since they changed their policy against the designers and the clients. I realized that my work and my income depend on corporations that exploit designers and trick clients. That's not an option for me. Not anymore. Everything felt off. Everything was calling me to stop. No matter how hard I tried to ignore it and push myself to "create", all I was doing was to push against something bigger and stronger.
